So last night we were sitting around the house, Zach is with Grandma and Grandpa, Travis was fixing a cabinet in our kitchen, Tyler was playing in the living room and I was sitting on the couch, with the computer next to me.
I walked into the kitchen to talk to Trav and a second later I hear Tyler banging on my computer. So I walk over there and he has ripped off a couple of the keypad keys so I scoot him back to his toys and grab up the several pieces. (He ripped off 3 keys) As I do that I hear him gag. Immediately I turn to him and open his mouth, and there is a piece of hard plastic (that goes under the key to make it go up and down).
I tell Trav I need help and am trying to get this piece out. It's a rectangle and is the long was in the back of his throat. I was worried about trying to scoop it out in fear that I would push it further back. He was getting air, I could hear him breathing and he wasn't turning color, but this piece was not coming out. Travis says he is calling 911.
I can hear it ringing but no one is answering! Where are these people. I grab my phone and dial too, again ringing. I toss the phone to Trav as Tyler has coughed and the piece was in a position I could hook it with my pinkie. So relieved that I was able to get the piece.
Then of course my phone is in emergency mode and I had to wait for them to call me back and tell them Travis was on another phone talking to someone. This took place in less than 5 minutes, but it felt like one of the longest moments in my life.
Needless to say after Tyler went to bed we picked up everything around the entire house that could even maybe go in his mouth. I thought I had done ok baby proofing this house, but the fact is, even the things you think are ok... the baby gets to. And we read up on what to do when your baby is choking, because it never hurts to have a refresher.
I am just really glad Tyler is ok. And it gave Travis and I a wake up call.
