Resolutions in Motion

I've only been working on this goal for 6 weeks,
and basically, I failed.

My goal for Resolutions in Motion was to lose 5 pounds,
and I lost 1.
Not really sure I can even call it a loss.
Down one day and up another doesn't really count.

I have struggled with many things and excuses over the past 6 weeks.

Excuse #1. I'm breastfeeding.
Summer is just 13 weeks old and I am scared of cutting calories too much
for fear of losing my milk supply. I'd much rather nurse her for as long as she wants
rather than having to switch because of something I did.

Excuse #2. I'm addicted to food.
I mean, I don't think it's a drug and I can't get away. But I don't make myself step away.
I really am terrible at portion control.
I will dish up a small portion
and then go back for more. And more.

Excuse #3. I'm lazy.
I think I pinned more fitness tips and exercise ideas
than I actually exercised.

Here is what I did do:

I wanted to stop drinking soda. While I didn't completely stopped,
I've only had a couple over the last 6 weeks. I've also slowed down my coffee drinking.
Which is hard. Because as a mom of 3, sometimes that kick in the morning is much needed!

I've added some exercise to my day.
I found a couple of things on Pinterest that I'm slowly adding to my day.
As someone who hasn't exercised in a looong time, slow is good for me.
And I'll continue to add on.

I really tried hard to drink a glass of water before I ate anything so I wouldn't eat as much.
Sometimes it helped, and sometimes I stuffed myself into oblivion.

I know it's a cliche, but after the first of the year,
GAME ON!

  2. Kate, I think most of us are in the same boat.. I didn't exactly see my goal to completion. But you know what.. you made some excellent first steps... cutting back on soda and adding in some exercise.. you're getting there. =)
Thanks for linking up! Can't wait to see what you'll do in the next round.

  5. You can lose up to 2 lbs and gain those same 2 lbs back in just one day! and, you are heavier in the morning then you are at night.

Excuse # 1 - If breastfeeding is a goal for you, keep at 'er!

Excuse #2 - There is nothing wrong with loving food! Your body needs food. Smaller portions are good, but try to incorporate foods that are good for the body. Foods you can say YES to, instead of making it so you feel like you are saying NO all of the time.

Excuse #3 - You are so right slow is good, just keep challenging yourself! Consistency is also important a half an hour every second day is way better for you than 3 hours in one day.

Try to keep in mind that you don't NEED to lose weight. The number on the scale is just how your body and gravity get along. You should feel good and have energy. That's health, not a number.

  6. good luck!!! everyone told me the pounds will just fly off when I nurse because of all the calories it takes..hahahahah. I finally committed to excersise and would take my little kids and babies with me to the gym..made it easy to motivate for me that way...

  7. Thanks everyone for the encouraging words!

momto8blog-- With #2, the pounds DID practically fall off while breastfeeding! I thought I hit the jackpot! This time, however, that has not happened! My body is making me work for it this time!

Victoria- You are SO right! The number on the scale is not ultimately what matters, it's being healthy. But at this point, to be healthy, to feel good, I need to lose weight!

  10. Hi Kate,
After my first daughter the pounds didn't come off as simply as everyone said. After my second daughter, they flew off. It's funny like that. Weight Watchers has a program for nursing moms. Maybe that might help you.
I found your blog on Bloggy Moms "1000 Followers." I am your newest GFC and Twitter follower. If you get a chance, stop by and follow back. Thank you and Good luck!
