2019 Reading Goals

Where are my reader friends?

Do you make reading goals each year? I have been a part of Goodreads for quite a few years and for most of those years I have made reading goals. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it just doesn't.

Reading Challenge

Last year, for 2018 I set a goal of 20 and Goodreads says I only read 13, so I might have to research that. I felt like this last year I always had a book in my hand but we did have a pretty busy year also, so maybe it just didn't happen.  You can check out what I read in 2018 by clicking the Goodreads link above.

For 2019 my goal is 25 books! I feel like that is a pretty doable and I've already read 2 this month, so we'll see if I can keep up that momentum!

Check out my entire list of books I want to read this year- there are a few extras in case I get through more than I think I will:

Reading List

Have you always been an avid reader or did you pick it up later? I always have loved to read. I inherited that from my mom especially, and I loved our days of standing in the bookstore with stacks of books we were about to buy. I still have all of my R.L. Stine "Fear Street" books that were my favorite as a teen. (I probably have around 50 or so of them. I'm not sure how many there were, but I had a lot of them!) I tried to get Zach to read them and he didn't really have that much of an interest. Tyler and Summer both love to read also, so I am not getting rid of all those Fear Street books just yet!

What is on your Reading List this year? Share your list with me so I can add some more books to my list of must reads!

Give Extra, Get Extra

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone.  #GIVEEXTRAGETEXTRA #Walgreens #CollectiveBias

Who likes to get things? I do! I love when a friend sees something that reminds them of me, or something we've done and grabs it for me. But you know what I love even more than that? Giving!

I love finding little things that remind me of a friend of family member and grabbing it for them. Maybe it is something simple like a Daryl Dixon t-shirt for my sister, or making coffee mugs for my friends, I am always on the lookout for something fun to give.

So I decided that I wanted to Give Extra, Get Extra!

Give Extra Get Extra

I ran down to Walgreens and got some gum for me and one to giveaway. I grabbed two kinds:

  • Extra® Gum Spearmint

  • Extra® Gum Polar Ice®

Both are kinds I already love and are classics, so I know my giveaway winner will feel the same! And I grabbed Extra because of the new Extra® 35-Stick pack. Who doesn't love a bigger pack of gum? Another thing is that it now comes in a super durable recycled package which makes it easier to carry and share with a friend, keep in the car, or in your desk at work.

I also wanted to make something that my winner will love too!

Extra Collage

So I ran to the fabric store and grabbed a couple of fat quarters. I felt like I had this genius idea to make a carrying case for my gum.

IMG_20160704_175120

I started out grabbing some lining and cutting my fabric to fit the lining.

IMG_20160705_092730

And make sure the "good sides" of your fabric are facing each other. So you are looking at both of the "outsides" of the material.

IMG_20160705_093054

Then I pinned some ribbon on the inside that will make a handle on the outside. Does that even make sense?

IMG_20160705_095951

Then I sewed a line all the way around the edge of my material/liner.

IMG_20160705_100338

Make sure you leave a small space to push the material through so it is right facing.

IMG_20160705_100716

Then I folded up the bottom to make a pocket. I pinned it and then again sewed all the way around the edge to hold it together.

IMG_20160705_102311

Now it is all together!

IMG_20160705_103708

Give it a nice little iron to straighten it all out. I also used a piece of iron on Velcro to give it a way to latch together.

IMG_20160705_112140

And Voila! You have yourself a fun little gum holder that can slide right on to the strap of your purse, or your gym bag, or your summer tote!

The possibilities are endless what you can do with your Extra® Gum Spearmint! So who are you going to share yours with?

2014 Goals

In 2013 I set some pretty hefty goals for myself. You might remember when I shared that my biggest goal for 2013 was to start getting into the best shape of my life. You can read more about that Here. But if you've been following along for a while you also know that I have been working hard since July on that goal and I've done pretty darn well, despite a couple of set backs. You can also check out Weigh in Wednesday to read my entire journey thus far.

Some of my other goals were to start sewing, which I finally did. I have made several little things, including headbands and even made us new stockings for Christmas. And I am looking forward to the other sewing projects I have on the horizon.

I have made tons of new recipes that I've shared for Foodie Friday.

And lots of random crafts and DIY projects around the house.

For 2014 I once again have lots of goals.

Like 2013, I am continuing on my weight loss journey. Last year I lost 30 pounds before I had my gall bladder out and had to stop exercising for a month. And I've gained back 7- not soo bad, so I still have about 37 pounds to go. I look forward to shedding that weight and feeling even great about myself and getting healthy! I hope you'll keep an eye on Weigh in Wednesday for updates.

I also plan to finally make our master bedroom more cozy. It's been put on the back burner for the past couple of years while we finished other projects around the house, or decorated other areas, and I decided that I'm finally just going to finish it. I have been gathering new bedding, fabric, pictures, etc and once I feel like I have all I want, I am going to spend a weekend getting it put together. I am excited to have a nice place for Travis and I to retreat to!

I see a lot more sewing and more DIY projects in 2014. And another thing you'll see plenty of? Recipes! So don't forget about Foodie Friday!

I am already starting to de-clutter my home. Ever since I read this post about 8 months ago, I have thought of it frequently. Do my kids need so many toys that they don't know what to play with? Do we need 5 8x8 baking dishes? Do I need 20 blankets stacked in the family room that no one ever uses? The answer to all of those are no. And you are going to hear more about what I'm doing about it soon!

And last, but not least, my blog grew a lot in 2013. We had a pretty big set back with our web address being bought from under us and having to be changed, but it's building up again, thanks to all of you! I appreciate you all coming back time after time, sharing my projects, pinning recipes, it all means so much to me. I really look forward to all to come in 2014 for Life as I know it. I love seeing the direction I'm going in and I can't wait to share with you some fun reviews and giveaways that I hope will come this way in the next year!

What are some of your goals for 2014?

You can also find me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram. I hope you will follow along!

My makeup bag:

For several reasons, there really isn't much to my makeup bag.
For one, I don't really like to wear makeup.
two, since I don't like to wear it, I'm not spending much on it.
Like, to me, some $5 Cover Girl mascara is too much to spend. :)

Every once in a while I will go through a kick, buy new makeup and play around,
but (for third) I'm just not good at applying makeup.
Maybe if I knew more about it, and how to apply it I'd like it better.
Really, I need lessons.

My typical makeup routine consists of a little liquid eyeliner, and some mascara.
If I'm feeling really good, I'll put on some eye shadow and blush.

Why do I blog

I started blogging because it gave me an outlet and let me post pictures of my husband and boys.
And it got me off of Facebook.
I thought it was a great place for my family to come to look at pictures of what we've been doing.
But let me tell you, I'm pretty sure none of them come here and look at this.
Now my blog has became a place where I've made friends, and I've learned a lot.

So this is the end of my 31 day challenge.
I know I sort of did a speed up,
But after doing the 100 day picture challenge
and then jumping right into this...
I'm so over challenges! :)

{27, 28 and 29}

A favorite recipe:

This is easy. I used to make these all the time, and now less often. But we love them.

Chicken Enchiladas

2 chicken breasts
1 package of taco season
1 can tomato soup
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can of Fiesta nacho cheese soup
(I use Campbells, I'm not sure if there is another kind?)
2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
1 package of 8-10 tortillas

Brown chicken in skillet
add taco season with some water, let cook in
Add all three soups, mix together

Spray 9x13 pan with cooking spray
then put a little bit of the sauce mixture onto bottom of the pan
Take a tortilla, add a scoop of sauce mixture and dump on some shredded cheese.
Roll up and place into pan. Continue this with all tortilla shells.
Add remaining sauce mix to top of filled tortillas and sprinkle remainder of cheese.

Spray, with cooking spray a piece of tin foil and cover enchiladas.
Cook for 25 minutes at 350*

Enjoy! (I have been eating these since I was a kid- Still love them!)

Something I am looking forward to:

Another one I don't have to think twice about--
I am looking forward to not only my growing belly,
but meeting the sweet little baby that is growing more and more each day!
I cannot wait until 9/17 to know if I am having a boy or girl.

Where have I traveled:
I thought I'd add this third one, because it'll be short!
Sadly, I have yet to travel to the many places I want to go in life!

I have obviously been to Washington State, because, well, I still live here!
I have been to Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Nevada, Wyoming,
California, Utah and Colorado.
Yep, that wraps it up! :)

{22, 23 and 24}

We are going to speed this up a bit!

The best thing to happen this year:

Well, it's been a pretty blessed year!

I have a healthy baby growing in my belly
and I cannot wait until September to hold this
sweet little one, and know if I have a third son,
or if I have a daughter!

That's a pretty great thing, right?

My dream job- I am living it!
Since I was a little girl I always wanted to be a mom.
I wanted to stay at home and raise my kids.
I thought I would home school too,
but haven't gone that far yet!

If I wasn't doing this, I have wanted for a long time to work in a
Local Scrapbook store.
I want to be the one creating the pages you buy in the store
rather than working in a big box store and just stocking shelves!
Since we no longer have a LSS, I might just have to open one after I win the lottery. :)

My favorite childhood book- Hmm...
I always loved "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?"
Zach loved it too, and now Tyler loves it!

By early middle school I was reading R.L. Stine's "Fear Street" books.
Let me just tell you, I got a new book at least weekly. Sometimes I would get a couple at a time.
And I have them all still! I don't have any intention in parting with those teeny bopper books
and keep thinking that one of these days I should read them again.

What books did you read as a kid?

{21} Your ten favorite foods

My 10 favorite foods in no particular order:

  1. enchiladas/ chimichangas
  2. lasagna
  3. potato chips
  4. nachos
  5. ice cream
  6. pizza
  7. tomatoes
  8. Cesar salad
  9. no bake cookies
  10. BBQ'd chicken
These are as of right this very minute...
Now I think I need nachos.... :)

{20} A difficult time in your life

A difficult time in my life

(This may be too much information for some people)

My due date was June 7th, 2012...
yep, that is {two} days away.

Right now I should be holding a brand new baby in my arms.
Instead, I have a little hole in my heart.

Last Summer Travis and I decided that once Tyler hit the year mark I would get off birth control.
At the end of August I forgot to get my pills refilled, so we just decided that
we'd let it be and just see what happens.

Well, you know what happens. :)
When I first took a test it was negative.
So a few days later I took another. Negative again.
I tossed the test on the counter and we headed out for a birthday party.
When we got home that afternoon, I picked up the test and saw a 2nd line.
I showed Travis and he didn't really believe me. (Like always!)
Then next morning I took another test and while the 2nd line was faint,
if you've ever tried to conceive, you know a line is a line!

I called the Dr. that next week and they had me do a blood test.
The nurse called that afternoon to tell me my beta's were really low,
but it was positive and they wanted me to come back the next week for another test
to make sure the numbers were doubling.

That weekend we went to Travis' moms and told her and we told his sisters.
Then the next day we told my parents and sister in law.
My sister already knew.

Then on Sunday night I had gone to the bathroom after something felt not right.
And things were for sure, not right.
There was the bright red I was dreading seeing.
It wasn't a lot but I told Travis.
I knew that bleeding can be normal for some people so I tried not to freak out,
but I felt that it was not good.

I tried to get some rest and woke up around 4 am with immense cramping
and a lot more blood.
I called the on call Dr at my OB office and she told me that while it doesn't always mean
miscarriage, it didn't sound good. But at this point there is nothing really they could do but wait.
She told me to call back after the office opened so they could order labs for blood work.

In the morning I went and got my labs done and when the nurse called me she let me know
that while my numbers were higher than when I got my positive test,
they were no where near where they should be at this point.
She was sorry, but I was miscarrying.

It was awful.
I have been through some hard times in my life,
but I had never felt so helpless. All I wanted to do was cry.
I kept thinking of this little baby I was carrying
and there was nothing I could do to save it.

After the baby passed, I felt so empty.
I could never have imagined how terrible that situation would feel
until that moment when I was in it, and nothing could console me.

I really have not talked about this with many people.
In fact, outside of my family only one person knew before this moment.
While I know I didn't do anything wrong. And I know I couldn't have done
anything to stop it from happening, I still questioned everything.
Did Tyler kick my stomach while I was changing him? Did I lean over the crib too hard,
every.little.thing was questioned.

This is something that happens so often. More times than not you just don't realize it.
But if it happens to you, understand it's nothing to be ashamed of.
And it wasn't your fault.

{19} What do you collect

What is something I collect?

I have mentioned this before, but I collect elephant statues.

It all started when I rode an elephant at a local zoo
when I was in kindergarten.
I've loved them since.

But I don't think I started collecting them until 5th or 6th grade.
My grandma was cleaning out some stuff and she found a little elephant statue
that was a piggy bank and I wanted it!
She also spent several years trying to give me a (real) elephant foot stool.
(I know, it's super gross!

Anyway, I'm not sure how many elephants I have. I would say probably a couple hundred.
Sadly, right now they are all packed away because for years I have just not had a place to keep them.
Hopefully one day I will have a cabinet, or a shelf in my scrapbook room for my sweet elephants!

And one last thing, trunk up is important--
trunk down= bad luck.....

{18} The meaning behind your blog name

The meaning behind my blog name

When I first started out almost 2 years ago,
I really didn't give my blog name any thought!

I was pregnant and so I went with ...And baby makes 4.
But after a while I knew it wouldn't fit anymore when we added another to our family
so I started thinking of what I wanted my new blog to say.

The movie, Life as we know it, had come out, and I liked that title.
It seemed perfect because I was living life as I knew it.

So that's pretty much what it's all about.
I am living life as I know how to.
And anyone who chooses to read my blog
gets to read about my life, and the life of my family as I see it.

Nothing deep. Nothing too exciting. :)
Just Life as I know it.

{17} What is your most proud moment?

What is my most proud moment?

Well, I have 3 of them.

First,
This is the day Zachary was born and I became a mom. 4/27/02

2nd,
This is the day Travis and I got married and made us a family of 3
4/17/10

And Third,
This is the day Tyler was born, making us a family of 4.
10/19/10

{16} What's at the top of your bucket list?

What's at the top of my bucket list?

This was a no brainer to me!

The number one thing I want to do is to go to Paris, France.

I have wanted to go there since I was a kid and was sooo close to going in high school...
(I spent my Paris money on getting married instead!)

Now that I have 2 kids, and one on the way, it's put off a little longer,
but I will go to Paris one day... You mark my word!

{15} Timeline of your day

Timeline of my day

Well, it varies, depending on the day.

If we have nothing planned for the day it goes something like this:

7am wake up for me if I want to shower that day (which I do!)
Zachary is usually up and showered by now, and watching cartoons,
and Travis has left for work. And I am probably starting my post for the day.
7-8 Tyler wake up-gets diaper changed
8-830 breakfast and empty/refill dishwasher
850 Zachary leaves for school

9-1030 is playtime for Tyler and I. Getting some stories read, doing some cuddling,
playing with toys and having a snack.

1030-11 Tyler lays down for a nap

11-230(ish) is time to clean house, do laundry, sweep, catch up on email, blogging,
and these days... my own nap :)

Around 2:30 Tyler is up and gets some lunch.
After lunch is playtime, and time to harass the dog. :)

3pm. Stop whatever you are doing because Ellen is on.
(Tyler will drop whatever is in his hands to come sit with me and watch "Eln"--his words)

3:23 Zachary's home from school
Time for homework

4:30-5 Get going on dinner... What's it going to be tonight?
If I already know, then it can wait longer. :)

4-6 (depending on dinner) You might find us playing outside with the neighbors.
(because even though Tyler acts shy, he loves the neighbor girl.:) -
When he sees her out the front window,
he attempts to call her name. It's cute.)

6 Travis gets home and it's time to eat!
630 we are cleaning up or already done and about to relax.

We might be back outside if it's nice out.

730-8 Tyler bath and ready for bed. Down by 8.

9- Zachary bed time

Depending on what's on TV that night, I might be heading to bed now too.

The only thing that really varies in this schedule is during the morning, if we have something to do
we typically do it once Zach is out the door to school. So groceries, story time at the library, other errands
are all done first thing in the morning. That way I don't mess with Tyler's schedule too much.
If we are in the car during nap time, then he sleeps well in the car too. :)
But I try not to do that too often. It's mainly when I have Dr. appointments, things like that.

So that is our typical day!

{14} If you won the lottery

If I won the lottery...

I guess it would depend on how much it was.

First, I'd pay off my house, car and any misc bills we might have at that time.
I would go on a trip or two
and put the rest into a fund where I can live off of the interest.

I would love to have the money set aside for the kids' education
and to help them through life without handing everything to them.

I would love to help our families, making sure they are comfortable.

I would want to give money to multiple charities.

And lastly, If I won the lottery, I don't think I would tell anyone.
I feel like there is so much pressure on people who win.
I want to help people because *I* want to, not because I should, or because I have to.

Speed dating

For bloggers....

C'mon people! I love my husband and am not looking to replace him!

Nicole over at This Little Momma is hosting this super fun,
getting to know you, blog post-- Go check it out!

This Little Momma

I know I have done several posts like this lately,
but here is another one!

Travis and I started dating 5 years ago today!
I can't believe how amazing these last 5 years have been!

*We have two boys and a third baby on the way, due in September.

*I didn't grow up with a religion. Though I wish I would have.
I have been reading the bible for several years and was baptized 5 years ago (in April)

*I could drink a Coca Cola and eat classic lays with ranch dip everyday.

* I have loved elephants since I was a kid. I collect elephant statues
and many times my grandma tried to give me a (real) elephant foot stool.
(Gross, I know! I didn't take it!)

*I love music and rarely keep it on one station in my car. One time you might get it and it will be on a pop
station, the next time it will be on country and the next on Christian Alternative.
(Those are my man three)

*I love Reese's peanut butter cups.

*I can count my true friends on one hand
(and really, I prefer that. It's more important to have close, amazing friends
than having lots of okay friends)

Okay, on that note I'm out! Go check out Nicole's blog!
And join in!

{13} What is your earliest memory

What is my earliest memory?

Lets start with this:
I don't have a great memory.
I have a hard time knowing if it's a memory,
or if I know it because it's a story that has been many times.

But one thing I do remember is riding an elephant.
Because ever since that day, elephants have been my favorite animal.
I must have been about 5 or 6.

I was on a school field trip to Walk in the Wild Zoo
(which sadly does not exist anymore)
And I remember being put up on the elephant with my cousin Amber,
and they walked us around in a circle.
(kind of like riding a pony)
I have a Polaroid picture of it somewhere.

{12} What's inside your fridge

What is in my fridge?

Well, right now it's on overload because we had company!

I guess I didn't take a picture of the bottom drawers...
But there is Romain lettuce for the salad I made earlier in the week.
Also red, yellow and orange peppers, onion, lemons, limes, cherry tomatoes.

Lots and lots of goodies!

{11} 15 of my favorite things

15 of my favorite things:

Besides the obvious of my family and friends,
these are some of my favorite things:

The Eiffel Tower- I've never been but I know it will still be a favorite after I go!

I love Harry Potter. The books, the movies, everything Harry Potter!

Seattle. Even though I only live hours away I don't go there near enough.

Arby's Roast beef sandwiches. Sooo good!

Blogging: I have always loved to write. And I kept a journal for many years.
Now it's just online for everyone else to read as well!

Calla Lily flowers are my absolute favorite.

Flip flops. I wear these year round. (Yes, I live where it snows)

Vanilla Coke. I was so sad when they got rid of it but so happy when they brought it back!

Yankee Clean cotton candles. Best smell. Ever.

Love. I love it. You really can't live without it.

Pregnancy. One of the best and most amazing things I have ever experienced.

Rascal Flatts. Love these guys. Love their music. It never gets old to me.

Scrapbooking. I scrapbook just about everything. Good or bad, My family will remember.

Iced Caramel Macchiatos. I wish I could drink one everyday. (sometimes I do... shhhh)

Photography. I am not amazing, but I do ok and I love to capture every moment I can.

These are just some of my favorite things.
What are some of yours?

{10} Your best physical feature

My best physical feature....

Since I have so many of them, where do I even start?

kidding.... I'm kidding!

I guess I'd say my best physical feature is my smile.
I'd love to say it's my toned arms or legs,
or my six pack of abs,
but it's not. :) Because I don't have any of those things.

But I do always have a friendly smile to give.
Whether you are happy or sad,
I will be happy to give a smile and hopefully make your day even better.
